Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about controls, reversals, locked gears, conveyors, queued moves, difficulty, statistics, sound, and browser support.

Gameplay

How do you play GearBotDash?

Select a nearby highlighted gear to create a conveyor from the robot's current gear. The two gears must rotate in the same direction.

Do I control the robot directly?

No. You control the route by selecting the next gear.

Does clockwise rotation determine travel direction?

No. Rotation determines compatibility. The selected destination determines where the robot travels.

Can every gear connect to every other gear?

No. Gears must be within connection range, reachable, and unlocked.

Reversals and Locks

Why do the gears change direction?

Most active gears periodically reverse between clockwise and counterclockwise rotation.

What does the countdown ring mean?

It shows how much time remains before that gear reverses.

What does the letter L mean?

The gear is temporarily locked because it is part of the active conveyor.

What is a permanently locked gear?

It is a disabled obstacle that does not spin, reverse, or accept a connection.

Jams and Waiting

What happens when two gears rotate in opposite directions?

The conveyor jams, the robot stays put, and time is removed from the clock.

Can I wait for a gear to reverse?

Yes, but the main timer keeps counting down.

Does the robot fall if I do not choose another gear?

No. It waits safely on the current gear.

Queued Moves and the Finish

Can I choose the next gear while the robot is moving?

Yes. You can queue one upcoming reachable gear.

Can I change the queued gear?

Yes. You can replace or clear the queued destination before the current trip ends.

Why can I sometimes not select the finish?

The finish uses a shorter connection range than ordinary gears.

Difficulty and Winning

How does difficulty progression work?

The game begins on Easy. Winning advances you. Losing keeps you on the same difficulty.

What changes on harder difficulties?

Harder modes may include less time, faster reversals, shorter ranges, more obstacles, and larger penalties.

How do I win?

Reach the finish before the timer reaches zero.

Is the board different every time?

Yes. New rounds generate different route layouts, obstacles, directions, and timing.

Statistics and Access

What statistics does GearBotDash track?

Games played, games won, and games lost.

Why do my statistics remain after refreshing?

They are stored locally in the browser.

Are statistics shared between devices?

No. Each browser and device has separate local totals.

Can I turn sounds off?

Yes. Use the sound control in the game.

Is GearBotDash free?

Yes.

Do I need an account?

No.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in a modern web browser.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. GearBotDash is designed to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers.
