GearBotDash Strategy
Plan Better Routes and Beat the Clock
Winning consistently requires timing, route planning, and knowing when to wait, backtrack, or change direction.
Watch the Countdown, Not Just the Direction
A gear that matches right now may reverse before you can use it. Always consider the reversal countdown before selecting or queuing a destination.
Use Travel Time to Plan the Next Move
The robot's conveyor trip gives you time to study the next group of reachable gears. Use that time to prepare the next choice.
Do Not Automatically Choose the Highest Gear
The highest reachable gear is not always the best choice. It may lead into a trap branch, leave poor exits, or become unusable after a reversal. Sometimes a sideways or slightly downward move creates a stronger route.
Recognize Trap Branches
Before committing, look beyond the destination gear and consider what will be reachable after the robot arrives. A move that gains height but leaves only one poor exit may cost more time than a lower move with several good choices.
Plan Around Permanently Locked Gears
Permanently locked gears never become available. Treat them as fixed obstacles and plan around them early.
Avoid Expensive Jam Penalties
A jam occurs when selected gears rotate in opposite directions. On harder difficulties, repeated guessing can end a round quickly.
Know When to Wait
Waiting can be useful when a nearby gear is about to reverse into a matching direction, but the main game timer keeps running. Wait only when the upcoming route is worth the time.
Plan the Final Two Moves Early
The finish uses a shorter connection range than normal gears. Identify which gears can actually reach the finish before you get to the top of the board.

- Look at the destination's possible exits.
- Avoid permanently locked gears.
- Do not assume upward is always better.
